Emissions Scope |
|
---|---|
Scope 1 | Scope 1 emissions refer to direct greenhouse gas emissions from sources that are owned or controlled by the organization, such as fuel combustion in boilers or vehicles. |
Scope 2 | Scope 2 emissions refer to indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, heat, or steam. |
Scope 3 | Scope 3 emissions refer to all other indirect emissions that occur in the value chain of the organization, such as the extraction and production of purchased materials and waste disposal. |
Outside Scopes | This scope can be used for emissions that do not belong in any of the scopes above but should be measured and reported - for example, Biogenic emissions. |
Offset/Capture | This is used for carbon credits, offsets, and activities that capture or reduce emissions directly. By using this scope, you won’t inadvertently reduce your scope 1, 2, or 3 emissions by combining carbon positive and negative activities. |
