Targets

The ultimate outcome of measuring emissions is the reduction of emissions. This is why we provide the ability to set targets and monitor progress towards them in Breeze.

Targets can be set on scope 1 and 2 only, or scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. Each target can then be viewed from the Home screen relative to actual emissions in order to monitor whether your organization is on track to meet its objectives.

Targets are available on all paid plans. Click here for information on Pricing.

Fields on Targets

All Targets have the same fields, designed to keep track of all relevant information.

Here is a brief description of each one:

Field Name Description Example
Title* An internal title for this target. This will be used to identify the target for you and your team. “SBTi Short-Term Scope 1 & 2 Target”
Description Additional information related to this target “Our public SBTi-approved reduction target”
Emissions Scopes*

The emissions scopes to which this target will be applied. You can choose either:

  • Scope 1 & 2
  • Scope 1, 2, & 3
  • Scope 3
“Scope 1 & 2”
Baseline Year*

The Reporting Year that will be used as the reference point for reductions. This is the first year of the target period.

You can only select a Complete Reporting Year as the baseline year

“FY2020”
Target Year* Year by which this target is to be met. The end year of the target. “2050”
Target Reduction* Percentage reduction to be achieved by the Target Year, relative to the Baseline Year Emissions. “90%”

*This field is required

Set a Reporting Year as the Baseline Year

You can use any Complete Reporting Year as the Baseline year. The selected year will be applied as the Baseline Year and the corresponding emissions will be displayed in the Baseline Emissions field. The Baseline Emissions will be extracted from the Baseline Reporting Year’s data for the selected Emissions Scopes.

Interim Targets

Based on the Target parameters, annual interim targets will be generated. The reduction pathway is linear, meaning each year between the Baseline Year and Target year will have the same reduction requirements.

Every year for which there is a Reporting Year available will have that Reporting Year applied. This is required to visualize the progress in the Home screen dashboard (see below)

The emissions target for any interim target can be edited by clicking on the value and changing it. This can be done from the Map screen.

Reset Interim Targets

If you want to revert back to the original linear reduction pathway based on the initial target parameters (e.g. 90% reduction relative to the baseline year), simply follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Map screen
  2. Click “TARGETS” in the left menu
  3. Click “SHOW INTERIM TARGETS” for the target you wish to reset
  4. At the bottom of the list, click “RESET INTERIM TARGETS” then click “ARE YOU SURE?” to confirm.

Interim targets will not automatically be reset if you change target parameters (e.g. baseline year emissions). This step should be taken after making updates to the target, if relevant.

View your progress from the Home screen

To view your actual emissions relative to your target, navigate to Home>Targets and select the target you would like to view under the “Selected Target” title. Below you will see the “Target vs Actual Emissions” chart for the duration of the target.

Further down the page you will see the annual incremental target and, where available, emissions from the assigned Reporting Year. The progress column shows the variance between actuals and estimates.

Export your targets

You can export a list of your Targets from the Map>Exports screen. This will give you a .CSV document containing all targets, along with their parameters.

To export a list of interim targets, navigate to the Home>Targets screen, select the relevant Target, and scroll to the bottom of the interim targets list. From there, you can click “DOWNLOAD INTERIM TARGETS” to export a .CSV of the interim targets for the selected Target.

Achieving your targets

Once targets have been set, it is time to begin investing in emissions reductions. These can come in all forms, and are highly context-based according to your organization.
