Ownership Status
As you set up your Places, you will be required to select an ownership status. This is designed to help Breeze understand whether or not you are in control of this Place, help with reporting and maintain accurate records.
But what is ownership status, what do each of the options mean, and what does it do?
What is Ownership Status?
Ownership status is a field that you use to define whether you own and/or control a Place. It is a mandatory field, and plays a role in determining the emissions scope of activities measured at any given Place.
What do the options mean?
Each of these options can be useful based on the type of data measured in Breeze. The control selections are based on the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard.
Name | Description | Control (Operational*) | Control (Financial**) |
---|---|---|---|
Owned | Sites and subsidiaries which are wholly owned by your organization. | Yes | Yes |
Leased | Sites and subsidiaries which are leased by your organization. | Yes | No |
Owned but Leased to 3rd Party | Sites and subsidiaries which are wholly owned by your organization but are currently leased to a 3rd party. | No | No |
Leased but Subleased to 3rd Party | Sites and subsidiaries which are leased by your organization but are currently leased to a 3rd party. | No | No |
Other/Unknown | This can be used in any other cases. for example, if this is not a physical place at all but a temporary work site, project, etc. | Yes | Yes |
3rd Party | This can be used for measuring any data from a 3rd party, including your value chain. Most often used for upstream or downstream emissions. | No | No |
*When your organization’s Boundary Method is set to Operational Control.
**When your organization’s Boundary Method is set to Financial Control.
How is Ownership Status applied?
Ownership Status helps Breeze determine whether or not a Place is in your Organizational Boundary, i.e. in your control, which allows the correct Emissions Scope to be applied.
For example, when you indicate that a Place is 3rd party, and you enter data at that place for a Source that has the Scope (Not In Control)** set to “Scope 3”, the data will be assigned Scope 3 - even if the Scope (In Control)** is set to “Scope 1”.
