Data Points
The activity data that measure your organization’s operations are the foundation of your GHG Inventory.
Breeze is designed to make collecting, uploading, calculating, and exporting your emissions data as easy and accurate as possible.
This article explains the fields on data points and how they are used throughout the system.
For more information on how to add data, click here.
Fields on Data Points
The fields relevant to each Data Point depend on whether Active and/or Market emissions are being measured for the Data Point’s Source. Some fields are added/edited by the user, and some are calculated by Breeze. Below are all of the fields you will see on Data Points.
User-Input Fields
When quick-adding or uploading Data Points, you are presented with the following fields:
Name | Description | Example |
---|---|---|
Source* | The name of the Source relevant to this data. | “Grid Electricity - Ontario” |
Place | The name of the Place relevant to this data. | “Headquarters” |
Usage Quantity* | The amount of this activity. | “1,200” |
Usage Unit* | The unit of measure of the Usage Quantity. You can upload any Unit available in the system with the same unit type as the Source default unit. | “kWh” or “Kilowatt Hour [kWh]” |
Time Period (Start Date* and End Date) | The time period which this usage quantity applies to. Commonly one full year. Only the Start Date is required. | “2023/01/31” to “2023/12/31” |
Notes | Any additional relevant information, such as a description of the original source of this data point or the methodology used to estimate it. | “Full year of office energy based on 12 electricity invoices” |
*This field is required
When uploading data, Source and Place names and Unit symbols must be spelled exactly as they are in the system.
In addition to the above fields, you can edit the following fields on the Data page by clicking “SHOW ADVANCED FIELDS”:
Name | Description | Example |
---|---|---|
Tags | Any Tags assigned to this Data Point. If you add data to a Place that has Tags, the Tags will be automatically added to the Data Point. | “Office” |
Data Type* | This indicates whether the entry is Actual or Estimated. By default, all Data Points are marked as Actual. | “Actual” |
Reporting Year* | The reporting year this data point is assigned to. Every data point has a reporting year. If the year is complete, this data point can not be edited. For more information, click here. | “FY 2024” |
Attachment | Here you can upload and view supporting documentation, like invoices or spreadsheets used to calculate estimations. | “Electricity Invoice January 2023.pdf” |
Emissions Scope** | The Emissions Scope of the Data Point. This is based on the Source settings and, if applicable, Place Ownership Status and Organizational Boundary Approach. | “Scope 2” |
Active Climate Factor** | The Climate Factor used to calculate Active emissions for this data point. This is the Source’s Active Climate Factor by default. | “Electricity - Canada - Ontario - Indirect GHG Emissions Factors for Electricity in Canada - ECCC - 2022-04-01” |
Market Climate Factor*** | The Climate Factor used to calculate Market emissions for this data point. This is the Source’s Market Climate Factor by default. | “Electricity - Canada - Ontario - Indirect GHG Emissions Factors for Electricity in Canada - ECCC - 2022-04-01” |
*This field is required
**This field is required when active emissions are calculated
***This field is required when market emissions are calculated
